楮（こうぞ）は、和紙を作るための原料となる植物で、その年に伸びたものを収穫します。紙になるのは皮の部分で、皮をはいだ後の白くて軽い幹が「かじがら」です。皮以外の葉っぱもかじがらも、土に還り次の世代の栄養分となります。でも、とても綺麗で魅力的なかじがら。これを使って面白いことできない？試してみたいと、高知から１００本のかじがらを送ってもらいました。結んで、つないで、何か大きなものを作ってみましょう！遊牧民の家作りの映像も見ます。

What is “Kajigara”? What can we do with them ?

Kozo (paper mulberry) is a plant used to make washi paper. The skin is the part that becomes paper, and the white, lightweight part after the skin is removed is the “kajigara”. Except for the bark, both the leaves and the kajigara return to the soil and become nutrients for the next generation.

But the kajigara is very beautiful and attractive. Can’t we do something interesting with it? I want to try it! So we asked someone to send us 100 kajigara from Kochi Prefecture .

Let’s tie them together and make something big!
We will also watch a video of nomads making a house.

西村優子（紙の造形作家）と「かじがらプロジェクト」

西村は、紙の造形を制作（http://yukonishimura.com）しながら、紙のコトが気になってます。高知県吾北地区で土佐和紙文化や楮栽培、山間部のくらしをまもるために、地元の人や紙漉き職人さんとではじめだした「かじがらプロジェクト」。高知から遠く離れた東京でも動き出したかじがらプロジェクトの東京チームと一緒にゆるゆると考え続けていこうとしています。
